11th arrondissement of Paris
referred to as onzième
Popincourt derives it’s name from Jean de Popincourt (Chief President of the Parliment, who had a county seat in the vicinity. This area became known as the Village of Popincourt (The History of Paris)
Place de la Bastille, Nightlife
It is bounded by four well known points of reference:
-Place de République
-Place de Bastille
-Place de la Nation and
-Père Lachaise Cemetery (which is actually on the edge of the 20th arrondisement)
What we like about the 11e:
Les Domaines Qui Montent
136 boulevard Voltaire (Métro: Voltaire / Charonne)
Place de Bastille
Naturalia 33 boulevard Voltaire
O.K. it’s just a European health food chain, but the stores are disbursed about Paris, there is always one nearby. We like the vibe, the selection of food and produce – we buy organic apples, cloth grocery bags, and these WONDERFUL miniature dark fruit-grain-seed-apricot (slightly sticky) bread-loaves that we seek-out every trip to Paris.
Place de République
Budget:
